Text Box: Silicon Nitride is an advanced ceramic material which is characterized by its excellent  strength, very low porosity as well as very high thermal conductivity.  Furthermore, Silicon Nitride shows very good non-wetting properties and a very good chemical resistance.  Therefore, Silicon Nitride finds many applications in the casting industry.   Aluminum Titanate is characterized by its excellent non-wetting properties by molten aluminum as well as its extremely low thermal expansion.  There, components made from Aluminum Titanate are especially suitable where thermal cycling appears, e.g. sprue bushes and riser tubes used for low-pressure die casting.   Calcium Silicate is a low-density material and insulating material, which is also not wetted by molten aluminum.  Parts made from Calcium Silicate are for example spouts, floats and hot top rings.
